Notes to our Guests
The Midmar Mile was swum for the first time in 1974 when three friends, Mike Arbuthnot, Dick Park and Brian Glover, unable to compete in the Buffalo Mile in East London because of petrol restrictions, decided to stage a race in KwaZulu-Natal.
Midmar Dam
The Midmar and Mearns Dams are both in close proximity and well worth a visit.

Mearns Dam is a popular fishing spot, especially for those wanting to catch largemouth bass.

Boating, swimming, waterskiing, picnicking and fishing are popular pastimes at Midmar Dam. South Africa's Midmar Mile is the world's largest open water swim, a major social event, and takes place annually at Midmar Dam.
